About Mosaics:

Mosaic making is not difficult: all you need is a keen eye for detail and a steady hand. And patience. Creating an image or object consisting of hundreds, sometimes thousands of different pieces and seeing this artwork slowly take shape under your hands is awesome. Actually, you get carried away and the end result is unique to you and extremely rewarding. And of course I am there for you every step of the way!

Course Description:

Weekly Mosaic Course/Workshop from Sunday to Saturday between May and November – flexible

–  Small Group of 1-4 adults – Beginners & Advanced

– The course is open to anyone aged 18+

– Over the course of 6 days I will work with you to complete a mosaic design of your choosing from start to finish, showing you mosaic techniques & applications, how to cut and use different materials and combine colours & design. You will then learn how to fix, grout and finish your mosaic to take home with you, Mosaic sizes are usually rectangular 35 x 45 cm or square 40 x 40 cm (so they fit in your hand luggage) and will be framed for you to take home.

–  At the end of the course, as a beginner you will have a good knowledge of mosaic making and hopefully continue to create your very own artwork. The more you practice, the better!

–  Advanced guests have the opportunity to create their artwork inspired by stunning surroundings. I look forward to exchanging ideas & experiences with you and assisting you throughout your stay.

– Courses take place in the morning. Afternoons are spent at leisure, as a group or individually: visit places, relax at the beach/by the pool, work on your mosaic, chill out…

–  All mosaic materials, tools & equipment will be provided

About me

I have always been mesmerized by the effects mosaic creates. Its shapes, colours and dimensions; its history almost as old as mankind. I started to look into mosaics to integrate them into my Interior Design projects. That was almost 10 years ago and since then this art has become a passion. The art of mosaics allows you to express your creativity in a very unique way and its applications are endless, indoors and outdoors. As an Interior Designer I renovated most of Ocean House myself to a high standard. I live in Bodrum since 2007 as well as in London. I am a Member of the British Association of Modern Mosaics and I am a volunteer/tutor at Southbanks Mosaics when in London. I speak fluent English, German, French, Dutch and good Turkish.

Staying at Ocean House was definitely a home from home environment for me (not the views of course ! ) Ingi was a very welcoming host .
Mosaics were a new experience for me but found that Ingi was a very good teacher, there to help with all aspects , from choosing the design ,setting up and instruction throughout the whole process . I learnt many tequniques while my mosaic. Times were relaxed so I was able to continue maybe a little longer some days which was great . The completed mosaic was finished on time and framed thanks to some extra help from Ingi . I am so happy with the mosaic it was more than I expected to bring home ! It’s fab .
Ingi is a very good cook also, all meals were delicious ,all freshly made with all fresh ingredients. A must to visit local market .
The accommodation was very comfortable with fantastic views ,great balconies for relaxing and also spotlessly clean .
I must say that as a single traveller I felt very comfortable in this area of Turkey , Ingi speaks fluent Turkish and was with me on local excursions which was great . Very affordable local food which was also delicious .
I had a great week , learning, eating ,relaxing and found out more about the Turkish culture .
    Thank you Ingi .

What a wonderful week. Ingi is warm and very laid back, which put me immediately at ease. I had a few ideas for a design, but had never done any mosaic work before. We talked through the design and agreed colours/techniques. I sketched out my picture and we got going cutting glass and completing the first part of the mosaic. We worked on it bit by bit; Ingi was flexible about when we worked which allowed me to have a mixture of beach chill out time and visits to bodrum. Day trips would have been a possibility (boat rides or trips to historical sites) if I had thought more in advance, but bodrum is interesting and I enjoyed the chilled out vibe and crisp sunny weather, which was a great contrast to London at the end of October. I would suggest taking clothes for warm and cold weather if you go at this time of year though, as temperatures can be quite changeable esp. in the evening when it gets cold. I would recommend a trip to the hammam and the view from the castle in bodrum. Travelling around by bus is really easy and everything is good value for money, so shopping and restaurant trips in the marina are all very affordable.

The view from Ingi’s home is spectacular and she’s an excellent cook. The whole experience was as she described it: relaxing and interesting. I am very happy with my final mosaic and really enjoyed getting to know a little bit about Turkey as it was my first trip there. Many thanks Ingi.

If you are looking for a picture perfect holiday then Making Mosaics by the Seaside is for you. Ingi is a perfect host and is willing to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The location of the villa is perfect with access to a private beach. The rooms are nice and adequate. My favorite place is the balcony which is perfect for watching the sunset. For me being creative was the most important part of this trip. What a perfect balance between relaxing and being creative.
