Setting your location

Bergerac and Carcassonne are two popular regional airports in France with flights from a variety of airlines originating from the UK, Spain and Northern Europe. For example from the UK, it’s possible to fly to either location from Liverpool, East Midlands or London Stansted.

To measure the distance from each airport to the painting holidays in question, we’ve used the distance facility on the web site itself which enables you to set your location (it’s located at the top left of the screen), and then each holiday will display it distance from you.

Palettes de Gascogne

Distance from Bergerac Airport: 66 miles / Distance from Carcassonne Airport: 101 miles

Courses are based from La Salle, a beautifully restored maison de maître and the home of hosts, Jill and Terry. It’s only a 10 minute stroll from St Puy, a stunning bastide village (population just over 500) which can trace it’s origins back to the 13th Century. La Salle itself features some stunning features itself. Maisons de maître typically feature imposing front doors, and La Salle is no different. You’ll also see gorgeous fireplaces, simply magical stonework and outside areas which will make you want to stay…permanently. The gardens deliver serenity, colour and Mediterranean touches with their olive and lemon trees. And lets not forget the swimming pool either!

Each year Palettes de Gascogne run 4 art holidays in France, run by established and experienced visiting artists. Group sizes are kept small at between 4 to 8 people which ensures students get the level of attention required. This variety of tutors brings a breadth of experience and expertise hard to match.

A 7 night stay costs between £400 (May & June) and £500 (July, August & September) and includes everything. All you need to do is get to Toulouse airport (there’s a shuttle bus from Carcassonne airport) or Auch or Agen train stations and either Jill or Terry will collect you.

Art Holidays in the Pyrenees, France with Rodney Munday

Distance from Bergerac Airport: 141 miles / Distance from Carcassonne Airport: 59 miles

The Ariege is such a beautiful area of France. Yet still so very accessible. Courses are run from Le Pichet and La Carrette, adjoining restored mountain houses with the latter being the artist tutors own accommodation.  Le Pichet offers a unique place to stay. You should look at the the pictures to fully appreciate it. The house is at 800m, nestled below a castle built by Charlemagne and offers stunning distance views to the Spanish Pyrenees.  For those tempted to accompany, but not paint there is a raft of things to do – horse riding, canoeing, angling, and there’s even a ski resort about an hour away! Ski resorts in the Pyrenees are very family orientated and if visiting in off-peak you can sometimes feel like it’s your own private resort!
